| if they order some expensive hard to find part that only you are looking for (something exotic that they don't typically sell), get it in stock and ready to ship, and then find out the card you gave is BS, they're stuck with a part they'll have trouble selling and will likely have to return to their vendor at a loss. For example, if you get a JWT ECU for some 1000cc injectors and some crazy setup that only you have and it has to be custom built by Jim Wolf for this reason, and the vendor orders it, has it made, and gets it, only to find out you aren't going to pay for it, he's now stuck with an ECU that he has no use for and Jim Wolf will only take it back with some profit to himself because he also knows this ECU is now useless. By making sure they have all the money up-front, they ensure that they won't take a hit if by some chance you're not legit. I understand your point of view, but if everyone could work at a vendor like I did for a while, you'd all understand their point of view as well... why should they front the money for a part they'll have trouble selling if you're not garaunteed to buy it (and placing the order doesn't mean garauntee)? On smaller, easy to move items, they may be willing to do that... but not so often on turbos and larger things. If a stranger walked up to you and said "go into this store and buy me this expensive product and I'll give you the money when you come back out" would you trust him or say "no, give me the money first so I can go in and buy the product for you" And FWIW, when it comes to online orders (this seemed to be a big issue), the card is billed the second you click submit by the website... the vendor never touches the credit card number, and therefore isn't really to blame if you order a part that's on backorder and are charged for it before it's sent. just my input, whether it's worth anything or not =P
